Marquetry

The Egyptian Museum in Cairo has a pair of 3,500 year old sandals from the tomb of King Tutankhamun. Made of wood, they are ornately decorated with inlays of gold, birch bark, bone and glass. Other examples of decorative inlay from the tomb include boxes, panels, games and furniture. All were made using techniques which were the forerunner of marquetry.

In Marquetry thin sheets of wood, metal, stone, shell or mother-of-pearl are cut into intricate patterns and inlaid on the surfaces of furniture. Marquetry demands intricate artistic skill and precision. The results are pieces of great complexity and astonishing beauty.

McEvoy Veneers & Marquetry has combined this ancient craft with modern technology to use precision cut wood veneers for its marquetry. Benefitting from the range of colours in both natural and dyed wood veneers, we craft unique and memorable marquetry pieces, from bespoke furniture to boardroom tables, from headboards of beds to bride and groom family crests for weddings, from commemorative pieces to one-off art installations.

We can apply marquetry to most pieces of furniture or can create a bespoke piece of art suited to your requirements. We are limited only by your imagination. Contact us today to see what we can craft for you.

Tables

The accuracy and dedication of our craftsmen is seen in the furniture they produce. They range from marquetry logos inlaid into boardroom tables to elegant designs, crests or borders on household tables.

Doors

As with our fire doors, we also produce custom designs for our door layons. These can range from the simple to doors depicting scenes from fairy tales or folklore to those with an Art-Deco feel.

Art Pieces

We are particularly proud of the quality and artistry of our commissioned pieces. We also produce a limited run of “wood paintings”, images in marquetry made entirely of wood.

Commemorative Pieces

For clients looking for pieces to celebrate unique events, we have created items to celebrate weddings, to mark a birth, to applaud a retirement, to enhance special presentations or to give as prizes.
